Age Requirement
Adult Volunteer
Anyone 18 or older. No adult supervision is required and dog walking is permitted.
Teen Volunteer
Anyone 15-18 years old. Small dog walking is permitted, must be under adult supervision.
Junior Volunteer
Anyone under 15 years old. Adult supervision is required while volunteering. No dog walking is permitted, may accompany an adult walking dogs.
Adopt-a-Thons
Duties
Participating in Adopt-a-thons consist of picking up a dog/cat from CCHS and taking to pre-determined Adopt-a-Thon location.
You will come to CCHS at pre-determined time to pick your animal. If you are taking a dog, you exercise the dog prior to taking to event. If you are taking a cat, you will pick up all require materials, such as crate, food, water bowls, and litter box. You are responsible for transporting the animal to and from the event.
While at the event you are responsible for maintaining proper distance from other animals and being aware of your surroundings. You will be interacting with the public on behalf of CCHS. You will be communicating with the public the correct information about said animal to help find a forever home for them!
Once the event is over you are responsible for transporting said animal back to CCHS.
Must be able to safely transport said animal to and from the event.Afternoon Cleaning
Duties
Afternoon cleaning is from 2-5. During these times, we recheck all dog/cat kennels for a clean environment, food, and water. All dogs are re-feed as well. Our smaller dogs are walked and their outdoor kennels are cleaned. Helping with dishes and laundry is also an afternoon task. During this time socializing with the cats is a great benefit. Afternoon cleaning is a great time for kids and their parent/guardian.
Bottle Baby Foster (Kitten)
Duties
Help bottle feed baby kittens that come in without a mom. This can range from 1 day old kittens to eight week old kittens.
This includes feeding throughout the day and night, simulating bowel movements, and socializing as they get older. For the kittens to get the proper care, they would need to be staying in a safe and calm environment within the house.

Duties
Come to anytime we are open and interact with our cats. You can take them out of their kennels to play with, cuddle, brush, or just let them stretch their legs. You can also sit in our communal room where the cats are free range and love to crawl on you and get loving. Cat socialization helps the cats physical and mental health which makes them more adoptable! :-)
Clerical
Duties
You will work at the front desk entering data into database, organizing papers, putting newsletters and other items in envelopes to be mailed out, etc
Dog Walking
Duties
Dog walking consist of taking dogs from their kennel out for off leash play in a secure runner and/or walking them around the premises. Interacting with the dogs is vital for their physical and mental health. Dog walkers can play, brush, or just cuddle with the dogs. This helps them to become more adoptable!

Qualifications
- Must attend a dog walking training class at a predetermined date/time.
- Must be checked off by dog walking trainer for each "color" in order to advance for qualified walker!

Duties
We have various events throughout the year that require your help in working fundraising events. Please email [email protected] if you would like to assist with fund raising events.
Long Distance Transport
Duties
Long distance transport is helping transport said animal to a different city to either a rescue or to another location so the animal can continue being transported on.
You would be responsible for transporting animal in your own car to meet location.
You would be responsible for making sure all paperwork is transported with you and given to next driver on route.

Duties
Morning cleaning consist of cleaning dog and/or cat kennels. This is cleaning, feeding, and maintaining their living space. Morning duties can also consist of washing dishes, doing laundry, sweeping, and mopping. Cleaning kennels is vital in the physical and mental health of our animals.
Qualifications
Must be able to be at CCHS as 8am and be able to stay at least three hours to complete the task given.Run Sitting
Duties
Run sitting consist of sitting in one of our three off leash dog runs. A trained dog walker will bring dogs to you to interact with. You can play, brush, interact, or cuddle them! This helps get out their pent up energy out, exercise and interact with different people. This helps them become more adoptable!

Duties
Obtaining a spay/neuter consist of helping clean our dog/cat kennels. Other duties include dishes, laundry, cleaning crates, unfolding newspapers and other items.
If you are 65 years of age or disabled and would like to obtain this voucher you can donate an item on the list below.
- Two 50# Bags of Purina Dog Chow
- Four 25# bags of Purina Cat/Kitten food
- Six 25# bags of Special Kitty Cat litter
Qualifications
To obtain a voucher, you must complete 20 hours of volunteering. You have to be at CCHS any day of the week at 8am. You also need to be able to stay at least three hours to complete the task given. You are required to clock in/out on Victouch.Vet Transport
Duties
This is when you transport animals to and/or from local vet hospitals for treatment. Morning pick is normally around 7:30 from CCHS. We use two different local veterinarians, one in Morehead City and one is Beaufort.
Afternoon pick up is normally around 3 from the vet back to CCHS.
You would be responsible for picking up animal(s) from CCHS and transporting to vet in own car. The animals would be in a crate.
